Eastern Shawnee Companies (ESC) is proud to announce that it has been selected to receive the Above & Beyond Award from the Kansas Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). This prestigious recognition is presented to employers who demonstrate exceptional support for their employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve—going above and beyond the legal requirements of the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
The award presentation took place on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at ESC’s Overland Park, Kansas office. Dave White, ESGR Volunteer Representative, presented the award certificate to company ESC CEO, Matt Metcalf.
This recognition follows the Patriot Award presented in December 2024 to Metcalf. That honor was initiated by an employee currently serving in the Guard, who praised the company’s flexible policies and supportive work environment. ESGR has since extended its recognition to the entire organization, highlighting the broader culture of respect and appreciation for those who serve.

The ESGR is a Department of Defense program that promotes cooperation and understanding between civilian employers and service members. The organization works to recognize outstanding employer support and ensure that service members can serve their country without risking their civilian careers.
